Rimrock Resort Hotel Review / July 2022
First and foremost, Rimrock Resort is a wonderful hotel perched on the side of Sulphur Mountain ; only 5 minutes walking distance to the Gondola and 7 minutes driving time to the town of Banff.
We reserved Room 456 , the “Family Executive, 2 King Guestroom “
able to accommodate the five of us. It has two large King size beds, a stylish large sofa bed and spacious bathroom. The layout of this roomy space ( 400 sq ft ) is perfectly designed to accommodate up to six people, if needed.
Our family consisted of 3 Adults and 2 children; ample room for everyone. Featuring 2 TV’s , a coffee table w/ a Keurig Coffee maker and complimentary coffee pods. It also had a mini fridge to store your own beverages.
Surprisingly, the partial view of the outside courtyard is welcoming. Initially the room description said it was obstructed, however we found the view not bad at all. The outside courtyard on the third floor below us is a super nice retreat anytime of the day.
The third floor also features the large enough indoor pool and spa, along w/ a well maintained fitness room featuring large glass windows to the welcoming courtyard. The whirlpool was indeed inviting.
All the front desk hosts, serving staff, bellhop hosts and concierge were all friendly and accommodating. The bellhop at the main entrance made you feel welcomed and quickly answered any questions you may have. You have an option of self parking ( $22 plus taxes ) or Valet parking ( $36 plus taxes ) per day. We choose the self parking.
The only problems we had were :
- Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived by 4:30 pm ( check in time 4:00 pm ) we didn’t get into our room until 5:15 pm and didn’t receive all our luggage until 6:00 pm.
- There’s really no waiting room , so the five of us hung around the lobby area. Not enough chairs , so we stood against the wall. Our grandchildren kept us busy, trying to entertain them, as they were tired, hungry and bored.
Things to be aware of :
Even though they suggest reserving a table at their restaurants, that’s only for “evening dining” at Primrose and Eden. Otherwise, Larkspur ( off the main lobby ) is first come, first serve. Including breakfast/ brunch at Primrose too. However, it didn’t present a problem and we were seated right away, in both cases. Just be aware, the menu is limited. However, the selection of craft beer was outstanding.
Sunday Brunch at Primrose restaurant was accommodating with pleasant cheerful servers. The brunch itself was ok ; the Eggs Benedict were done just right, sausages & bacon were ok and the cold food was suitable. Unfortunately, the pancakes and French toast were hard as rocks. I guess we could have asked for fresh pancakes. They have a fresh omelette station, which is always nice. The brunch cost $34 per adult and $15 per child. The cost is reasonable.
Overall, our stay at Rimrock Resort Hotel was pleasant and is half the price, if you were thinking of staying at the famous castle, ( The Fairmont Banff Hotel ). Rimrock is considered luxury accommodations, just to be aware.
The subtotal cost for the weekend of five guests was $1700 ; food for five guests for the full weekend cost us $1500. Grand total: $3200
See my video for full detail and room review :
So, depending on your lifestyle and how many guests you have, the price may differ. If we had stayed at the famous Castle- in-the -Mountains, the same stay would have cost double.
Awesome perk : The front lobby desk will give you free tickets to ride the city bus into downtown Banff and back. Just wait out front by the road and the city bus will pick you up. Free service up to 11:00 pm , which is indeed a plus 😊 ( Trying to park your car in Banff is not recommended ) .
I would highly recommend the Rimrock Resort Hotel for your next vacation in Banff National Park, just minutes from the town of Banff. Even though the service wasn’t totally up to par, I would still recommend it. Times in the hospitality business is strained, with each property having trouble staffing, due to the hardships of the last three years. As well, just so you know the summer months are extremely busy, so plan ahead.
Cheers !
